Dear friend,
Your participation in the Bishop’s Action Appeal is such a blessing to me and to our recipients! Thanks to your generous response to last year’s appeal, we were able to contribute over $35,000 to the Sisters of St John the Divine’s Home for the Heart Campaign, our beloved local missions and the national church’s Giving with Grace.
In 2024 we are inviting your support for the curates of our Diocese. Curates are new clergy in their first parish, working alongside the parish priest, learning and serving for approximately two years.
I don’t need to tell you that times are challenging for the Church. As we face the future, it is important to have energetic, well-trained clergy to lead the Church and serve the People of God. When we invest in our curates, we are ensuring a brighter future for our diocese. For example:
Fresia Saborio has developed ministry to a wide range of people from different ethnicities, including Hispanic and Ukrainian communities in and around Granby.
Ben Stuchbery led the Revive course for members of Ste Agathe and Arundel who experienced deepening spiritual vitality while growing closer together in community.
Peter Lekx (left, with his family) has been involved with Messy Church, Church in the Park and Harvest House; creating new avenues for effectively reaching families on the West Island. He will spend his curacy at Christ Church Beaurepaire.
As you can see, supporting curates brings new life and opportunity to the whole Church. It is an investment that has a real impact beyond each individual parish. Your gift today will continue to bless the church for years to come.
Unless you specify otherwise, half of your donation will go to Giving with Grace which funds projects at the national church level, including The Anglican Healing Fund, Indigenous Ministries, Public Witness for Social and Ecological Justice and more. With my thanks and every blessing,
The Rt. Rev. Mary Irwin-Gibson
