2025 Black Heritage Celebration / Célébration du patrimoine noir

Celebrating Black Heritage
Across Canada February is commemorated as Black History Month, with the 2025 theme being Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.

On Saturday February 22, the Diocese will honour Montreal’s Black heritage with a special celebration. The event starts in Fulford Hall at 10am with a conference and cultural performances accompanied by coffee and croissants, then moves to the Cathedral at 11:30 with a joyful Eucharistic celebration. The Rev Dr Ali Tote, Lutheran Bishop of Saskatchewan, will preside at the conference and preach at the Eucharist.

In preparation you might like to visit the social justice section of the cathedral’s website and  watch the 45-minute video of a Black Lives Matter conference held on zoom in 2020 which focused on the history of slavery in Quebec. You will also find interviews with members of the congregation celebrating our diversity.

Célébration du patrimoine noir Au Canada, le mois de février est célébré comme le Mois de l'histoire des Noirs, le thème de 2025 étant « Héritage et leadership des Noirs » : Célébrer l'histoire canadienne et élever les générations futures.

Le samedi 22 février, le diocèse rendra hommage au patrimoine noir de Montréal lors d'une célébration spéciale. L'événement débutera au Fulford Hall à 10h avec une conférence et des spectacles culturels accompagnés de café et de croissants, puis se poursuivra à la cathédrale à 11h30 avec une joyeuse célébration eucharistique. Le Révérend Dr Ali Tote, évêque luthérien de la Saskatchewan, présidera la conférence et prêchera l'eucharistie.

Pour vous préparer, vous pouvez visiter la section justice sociale du site web de la cathédrale et regarder la vidéo de 45 minutes d'une conférence Black Lives Matter tenue sur le zoom en 2020, qui portait sur l'histoire de l'esclavage au Québec. Vous y trouverez également des interviews de membres de la congrégation célébrant notre diversité.
