/Scripture
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
by the forgiveness of their sins.
By the tender mercy of our God,
the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.’
-Luke 1
Hymn - Creator of the Starry Height
To God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Spirit, Three in One,
laud, honor, might and glory be
from age to age eternally.
Meditation
This snippet of the song of Zechariah describes John the Baptist as the one who comes before Jesus to prepare the way for him, and to help those who await the messiah conform to his reign of peace. Today, you can remember all those who, like John, help forge the paths of peace, paths that are difficult to tread. You are invited to give thanks for their witness, and ponder those ways in which you too may be counted among the peacemakers.
